Jane is a long-standing Professional Member of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) and a Registered Interior Designer with the Texas Board of Architectural Examiners (RID). She holds a Bachelor Degree from the University of Maryland in Interior Design.
Growing up, Jane was always designing something. She started with clothing, for herself of course, but quickly moved on to jewelry, pottery, three-dimensional art, purses, lampshades and many other interesting objects. Most of her creative designs were proudly given away to family and friends.
At thirteen, Jane spent the summer visiting her grandmother and her uncle’s family in Maryland. Her uncle owned a furniture store called Burkey’s Furniture, which is still owned and operated by her family. After observing the workings and interactions of her uncle’s store, she knew she wanted to become an interior designer.
With excitement and passion, Jane has pursued interior design for more than 20 years. She has found joy in working with all types of people and helping them create practical, comfortable and, most importantly, beautiful design solutions for their homes. Her experience includes government contract jobs for Air Force Bases throughout Texas, The Old Blue Club at the Sheraton Hotel in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, hundreds of homes and offices in and around Houston, Austin and San Antonio, as well as homes in Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Orlando, Florida.
Clearly, Jane is at home at Louis Shanks.
